International Airline Connections?
Hello, I am taking my first international flight soon and have a few questions regarding luggage and security. I am going from Kansas City (MCI) to Bangkok, Thailand (BKK). I have a connection in Chicago (ORD) and a connection in Chiba, Japan (NRT). When connecting will I need to acquire my luggage and check in? Specifically the international connection in Japan. Will I also need to clear customs during the connection and so forth with security in Japan? My flight is ANA Airlines from MCI through BKK. On my return though I take ANA from BKK until ORD, but then I am transfered to United to return to MCI. Will I need to acquire my luggage and check in again when I change airlines?

ANA and United are Star Alliance partners and have interline baggage and ticketing agreements, you should receive all your boarding passes for your outbound flight and have your luggage checked through to Bangkok when you first check-in in Kansas City. The same applies on your inbound flight, except that you'll need to clear customs at your first point of entry in the US and retrieve your luggage to do so. You then can drop your luggage off at a counter for connectiong passengers.
