I had to fly alone with my two sisters from New Zealand to US too :3 I was freaked out, cause Im 13. My oldest sister accompaning us was only 15. I had all the worries you had. But, the airport has alot of signs and such to direct you exactly of where to go. If you need help, or if your not exactly sure if you're heading in the right direction, ask anyone who works at the airport. Anyone whose nearby. They'll nicely tell you. Dont worry. Im a pestimistic person, and so I was freaked out for it too. I got through it. No worries.

Hi, I'm 16 and I flew by myself from Jax, Fl to Washington, DC. There is truly nothing to fear and the people who work at the airports are extremely nice b/c they know that you are in an unfamiliar place. Never be afraid to ask for help! My sense of direction is nonexistant and I made both flights with no problem. Also, bring entertainment, those waits were pretty boring. And talk to your fellow travelers. I did and found out the coolest information. It pays to be friendly b/c then if you don't wanna ask an associate, you can always ask your new friend!!

Don't be afraid to get lost. Most people do (myself included), even at their local airport. Look for the airport employees. They are there to help you. If you are considering leaving the airport during your 2 hour lay over, ask/use an airport shuttle. The shuttle drive most likely will know all the popular stops on his route. If you decide to ride the shuttle, ask the people sitting by you what restaurants are the best. Chances are they have either live there, been there before, or have family/friends who they are meeting. Use google maps or if you have a cell phone with a built in GPS system to help you find your way if you are really worried about it. Check the city's tourism websites. They probably have some tips and tricks about getting around the city. If you are concerned about missing your flight, however, roam around the airport. Getting lost once is almost like a vaccine. It prevents you from getting lost there again. Besides, once you have been lost, the "scariness" of the experience goes away. Don't be afraid. Ask questions, get directions, and write things down. Good luck and don't scare yourself over nothing. =)

first of all a two hour layover is about right. It allows a little for any delay on the first leg and gives you time to wind down and find your way around. When you get off the plane follow the passengers through any gate which says something like "Connecting Flights" Keep an eye on the departure screens for your flight. Make sure you know the flight number as more than one could be going to the same place at similar times. If in doubt ask! There will be an information desk and there are always airport staff around the area. You will be fine, thousands of people do this every hour.
